Blue Like Jazz Book
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010Being an avid fan of books, I decided to finally give into the numerous suggestions of my friends and read Donald Miller’s Blue Like Jazz.
I felt that Blue Like Jazz provided great insight into the world of Christianity..
Miller’s writing style is his biggest strength.. Miller reveals his thoughts through a mixture of personal reflection and Biblical truths.
I liked Miller’s incredibly personal writing style..
Miller captures those moments that readers will connect with perfectly.. I also loved Miller’s self-depreciating writing style..
One of his best lines from Blue Like Jazz is from page 152. He points out that “I am something of a recluse by nature. I am that cordless screwdriver that has to charge for twenty hours to earn ten minutes use.”
When I first read that, I couldn’t help but burst out into laughter because I myself have felt that way at times.
Miller is often criticized for not focusing on Christianity throughout the book..
I feel that some of this criticism is unfair.. Most of these people are probably used to the more traditional Christian books..
But Miller shows readers that he understands the need for having God in your life..
I promise that if you read this book, you will find Miller’s journey somewhat relatable to your life. I see Miller as a voice of the common man who isn’t afraid to speak his mind..
If you are looking for a new reading experience, pick up Donald Miller Blue Like Jazz. While he may not be the deepest writer, his works are definitely relatable and applicable to every day life..
