Here is the secret to get what one wants. It is just giving. The reasons for it are based on the well-known philosophical dictum “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?” The egg, and the chicken that is born out of it, create the circle of life, and form the basis for a profound comparison for attaining and giving what one wants: the circle of joy. This brilliant concept is analyzed in the clear voice and lucid prose of Masami Sato, the author of the book named ONE.

As humans, many of us have longings for all kinds of things. And of course, theories of economics inform us that while requirements are unlimited, resources remain limited. This provokes us to think, the more the range of resources that we have, the more the longing that we will be able to fulfill. That is why we tend to defend our resources. We feel that dividing it between others or giving the resources away will reduce the amount we can retain to get what we ourselves want. This is the basic game of success and failure that is being acted out.

Could it be true, then?

What if the answer turns out to be “no”? What if it in fact contradicts the secret of attaining more? What if the secret of attaining more is in itself simple – by giving more?

A person can get a thing by the simple act of giving. In the same way that he can get eggs by breeding chicks. In the most simple way. Naturally. Spontaneously. And it is a fully satisfying joyful sensation.

First, let us start with a little analogy to explain more.

Chicken and Egg: the Cosmic Circle of Life

Many a philosopher has come out with this question from the beginning of time, “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?”

The answer to this riddle is simple. It actually does not matter which came first, as both eggs and chicks are already here. Still, if we want to get better results, we can choose to start somewhere.

Giving and Receiving: the Cycle of Joy

What happens, if we pose a different question? “Which comes first, giving or receiving?”

Again, if we want a better outcome, we should choose to start somewhere. Giving off things to others is certainly easier than striving to get it first!

What happens if we are trying to get it first?

If we yearn to own something, naturally we would try to get it. And once we get it, we would try to hold on to it. This is absolutely normal – it does make sense logically.

But the real results of ‘trying to get’ are often not abundance and real long-term rewards.

For example, hoping to see others happy is not at all about deriving joy from them, or manipulating them to become happy. It is about how much happiness we can give them and thereby share with them. Full stop.

So how do we begin to get what we desire?

From the other end of the circle – by giving generously!

When we give first before we actually fully have what we really want – what we dream of – we send a very powerful message to ourselves that says, “there is enough, and more will come”. It allows us to experience the joy today – the joy of giving.

We only need to give out the love generously to others. It simply comes back to us. Giving love is the only way to be generously loved. When we acknowledge everyone for the great things they do and the great qualities they have, again it comes back to us. Others acknowledge us because we acknowledge them.

In the same way, if we wanted to have enough in our life materially, financially and emotionally, we just need to share the things we want generously with others.

Some are ready to give more physical things like time. Others opt to give what they can spare financially, like money. Those who give more (time, money, compassion, love, thoughts) have these things in abundance because it is the surplus. And surplus is the natural law of life.

Remind oneself of the rules of the game.

One rule: never expect a return when we give.

When we have the conviction that giving has got as its inherent part, ‘getting’ something back, we become upset when do not see the return immediately. We may even feel a slight dissatisfaction towards the receiver of our gift. And surely, nurturing a bad feeling for someone is not a proper thing to do! So we can experience the real happiness of giving when we are doing something with the knowledge that we are doing it only for ourselves – we are doing it for our own happiness!

Losing to win, giving to get..

In the beginning it may look as if we are losing. However, at some stage we recognize that taking things without giving is not an acceptable life pattern. And we have been aware of it all throughout. That is why tithing has been a normal part of the lives of many people who were leaders. And they did not do it with any fanfare so it was not done to gain popularity. It was done because it was a way of life.

Take a look around. ‘Simpler’ living things do it naturally. The bumblebees pollinate the flowers as they receive the honey so more flowers bloom in abundance. Naturally. That’s the game. They do not do it for conscience or justice. That is why they create such sustainability without even trying.

Giving is just being who we are, it is just like having; not greater or lesser. No difficulty, no conditions attached, just releasing oneself.

The gist of getting more can be summarised into two steps: Give first, and do not hope to get anything in return.

When we let go and give generously, what we want will be delivered to us. Naturally.

Part One of Three

Part One of Three

This collection of beautiful quotes that will inspire you to awaken your curiosity about the mystery of life is excerpted from “ONE”, a book by Masami Sato, the founder of Buy1GIVE which is a global giving organisation sharing the joy of giving. The quotes in this first edition include topics that are profoundly related to our everyday lives, such as mystery, judgment and connection. This article is the first part of the 3 “ONE Book Life-Changing Quotes Series”.

On transforming judgment

“Judgment often has very little relation to reality.”

“Actions and words don’t always accurately reflect who we are. Every single one of us has had the experience of wanting to undo what we did or said.”

On the mystery of life

“It’s very, very clear that we don’t need to know all of the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of life to keep living on this planet.”

“There are so many things we don’t understand in life. In spite of that lack of understanding though, we often enjoy experiencing those things.”

“Seeing is important but trying to figure out everything isn’t necessary.”

“The scientists are not here to reveal the ‘truth’ because we are here to seek it forever. They are actually here to complicate the game (of life) so that we can have more questions and enjoy the game longer.”

Connection

“Connection is the core of everything. That’s what life is. Connection.”

“Every single thing we do is to satisfy the need for connection.”

“We cannot feel unhappy when we are feeling totally connected. It’s impossible!”

“We are designed to constantly seek ways to connect to each other and to a greater purpose.”

“’solutions’ coming from fear and doubt may not be the most effective ways. We end up feeling more and more disconnected from each other.”

“We can only truly celebrate the victory with others when we win together. Then we feel connected.”

“This is the game called ONE. The aim of the game is to ‘connect’! We keep connecting until we all become ONE.

Sending children to summer camps is a crucial thing to fill up the gaps they get after their school semesters are over. Nothing can be more valuable and rewarding than sending them to a camp. They can learn some new set of skills, have fun, make new friends and prepare them for the forthcoming school and college study.

Different sorts of summer camps are running all over USA and all wish to offer the best education and entertainment. Some camps are in collaboration with colleges and universities and nothing can be the fine example than iD Tech Camps which runs at prestigious universities such as New York University, Arizona State University, Colorado State University, University of Michigan, Lake Forest College, Columbia University, and the list continues. Education training and fun they experience at such camps will remain for the rest of their lives strengthening their spirit and body which ultimately helps them fight all the ups and downs of life.

You can’t decide a summer camp blindly for your kids because it is the place which is unfamiliar for them. There are certain measures you can consider while deciding a camp. You should choose a suitable one which has ACA accreditation, and also offer safety and risk management policies in order that you can rest assured that you kids are quite safe and secure at the camp.

There’s a variety of summer camps; educational camps, computer camps, gaming camps, sport camps, robotics camps, cyber and science camps, kids and teen summer camps. Summer learning programs are equally important and decisive factor for your children as to what they wish to do in their lives. Suppose your kid is fond of video games then he/she can join a gaming or computer camp and can learn the secrets of video game creation and design.

There are overnight camps that extend for several weeks and the day camps where you can learn and have fun at the day and return home at the end of the day. Suppose your kid is not accustomed to stay away from home, you can prefer a day camp so that he/she can return home at the day-end leaning and enjoying various day programs. Suppose your kids intend to enhance their knowledge and experience, wish to be the part of summer learning activities, aspire to make new friends then an overnight camp is fine option for them. The most important benefit of overnight camp is the campers learn how to socialize with the peers.

It will be of little use if your kid is not given proper importance or attention. And therefore, when it comes to choosing a suitable camp for your kid please note the teacher-student ratio. 6:1 student-teacher ratio is an ideal one where special attention can be offered easily. Though there is always a monitoring eye pervading so that no mischief or abuse can happen, the campers are given freedom to learn and enjoy all sorts of activities under the supervising eye!

So, the final choice is yours which camp can be perfect for your kids. You can even consult the camp staff to learn about the learning courses and programs. This will help you decide which camp will suit your dear one. You can also manage to see some ex-campers and know learn their views which will also help you regarding choosing a proper camp for your child.

Spend this summer at iD Tech Camps which is number one summer learning Courses organizer.Choose California summer camps from different programs like day camp, overnight camp or girls camp in your city.

by Robbi Hess

You’re worried about rooming with a stranger but before you get too nervous, stop and ask yourself: What kind of roommate will you be? Face the challenge of a roommate with a smile and an attitude of compromise and you’re bound to have a great time.

1. The refrigerator – will you share one or have your own? Your own makes divvying up space and making certain neither of you scarfs down the others’ leftovers a non issue. If you have to share, consider having designated shelf space. Your shelf is your food, the roomies shelf contains stuff you don’t touch.

2. You call that clean? When you’re done cooking and eating, when will clean-up take place and who’s going to do it? A good rule: You dirty it, you clean it. You may have to come to an agreement on how long after the cooking and eating before the kitchen needs to be picked up. An hour? Two? Three days? Discuss it before hand and problems hopefully won’t surface.

3. Will your room be the place to hang out? Are you both good with that idea? Sit down and have a frank talk about visitors – both daytime and the idea of overnight guests. Set boundaries early on. Have a big test at the end of the week and need extra quiet and study time? Talk about it with your roommate and see what can be worked out. Remember, you both have to compromise to make it work.

4. Noise pollution. Do you sleep in silence? Can you not fall asleep unless you have the soothing images of television dancing through your head? Be considerate. Ask the roommate his or her preference, try to compromise. If they need silence and you don’t, put in some earplugs and you’ll soon be counting sheep.

5. What’s mine is mine. How do you feel about your roommate rummaging through your drawers, perhaps wearing your clothes? How about borrowing paper or ink because their printer ran out? May sound far fetched, but probably isn’t. Talk about ownership and boundary issues off the bat.

Your roommate may start off as a stranger, but living in close quarters could result in a life-long friendship with careful planning and compromise.

Since April of this year, 2009, 5th and 6th grade students in Japanese elementary schools, have been taking English as a newly designated, mandatory subject. To assist teachers with the new English class, the Ministry of Education has come out with a book called Eigo Noto. Eigo Noto is published in two levels. Level one is for 5th grade while level two is for 6th grade. The book is also available in a multimedia version on CD and the CD is included together with the book.

Eigo Noto isn’t without its faults though. For ALT’s (assistant language teachers), the teacher’s guide is entirely in Japanese. And with the listening and interactive CD’s, there really isn’t too much for the ALT to do besides hit the play button.

While it may be easy to criticize Eigo Noto, it’s a wast of time so instead I’ll offer some tips on how to get the most out of using Eigo Noto. A side benefit is of course the ALT will get to be more involved in class.

First lets look at the structure of an Eigo Noto lesson. Most lessons are divided into four different type of activities. Let’s Listen, Let’s Play, Let’s Sing/Chant, and Activities.

A lot of the the Let’s Listen activities are dialogs. Rather than using the CD, the Home Room Teacher (HRT) and ALT can perform the dialog as a skit. One advantage this has over using the CD is that the students will feel more confident once they see their own HRT speaking English.

The best part of Eigo Noto is Let’s Play. Here, the ALT can take over as Game Master. For me, this is probably the most enjoyable part of my jobs–tons of fun!

The singing and chanting activity, Let’s Sing/Chant, give the ALT a chance to lead a quick mini-practice session. The Alphabet song is one song in Eigo Noto so using that as an example, the Alt could say each letter and then have the students repeat. This give the ALT a chance to catch any problems with pronunciation that might get overlooked while the CD is playing.

The Activities in Eigo Noto are probably the hardest to make effective use of English because many of the Activities involve writing in Japanese. For example, in Eigo Noto level two, one activity has the children drawing a picture and describing, in Japanese, what they eat for breakfast. Complete the same activity before class and then use your finished activity to instruct the children, in English, how to do the activity. This will give them a visual way of seeing what to do as well as give them an opportunity to hear English.

While it’s always easy to criticize something, criticism doesn’t really help in the classroom and to that I have offered some tips to hopefully help those in need. Eigo Noto, like any other book, is a tool and a tool can only be as effective as the one who wields it.
