Nowadays, our pet dogs live in the family home, however, for some an outside kennel is also required. For those who are comfortable with DIY, building a kennel is quite an easy job. There are though a few things that you should bear in mind to make sure the kennel is suitable for your dog.

To keep as much of the adverse weather out, you should build the kennel with two rooms. This allows the sleeping quarters to kept away from the main entrance, and so providing a place that is warmer and out of draughts and driving rain.

The sleeping quarters needs to be 150 mm larger in each direction than the dog is when curled up, the entrance room only needs to be half as wide as this. The height of the rooms need be 150 mm higher than the distance from the floor to the top of your dogs head whilst sitting and the doorways equal to the dogs shoulder height and 50 mm wider than it’s shoulder width. The outer door should be placed at right angles to the internal door to avoid the wind blowing directly into the sleeping quarters.

Make the floor area from 18 mm exterior grade plywood, combining the width and length measurements of the two rooms to get the total area. This will then need to be attached to a plinth made the same size from 50 x 100 mm treated timber, this raises the floor off the ground. Both the internal and external walls should be made from 18 mm exterior grade chipboard, with the top of the exterior wall ends cut at 45 degree angles to allow for a sloping roof. Make the roof from 18 mm exterior grade plywood, cutting the panels 50 mm larger on the outer sides, this will provide eaves that will shed rain away from the exterior walls. To make it easier to clean the interior spaces, fix the roof panels with hinges or make them detachable. Cover the roof panels with roofing felt to make it weather tight.

In conclusion, treat the exterior with a suitable weatherproof paint or preservative. Plus, when you’re ready to site the kennel, place it where your pet will be able see the what the family members are doing.

Puppies are a lot like very young children; they are full of energy and want to check out anything new, and play with everything and explore new places.

It is vital that you properly train your puppy about how to behave in the house and to obey.

Dog House Training is important for your puppy so he develops good behavior patterns and helps create a bond between you both.

Dogs are communal animals, but they still need their own private ‘personal’ place for meals, sleeping and resting.

This is why puppy crate training is such an important part of puppy house training.

Just like a little baby, your puppy doesn’t like to be disturbed when he is having a nap or while concentrating on a delicious meal.

A kennel in your back or front yard is a option for your puppy. But if you don’t have a lot of yard space, or the weather is not suitable, a good comfortable crate would be best for him.

And a crate allows you to keep a closer eye on your little one.

Begin crate training your puppy after he has eaten a meal or already sleepy. Just pick him up and put him in his ‘quiet place’ crate.

If you put him in the crate in a regular schedule he will learn when ‘naptime’ is.

If you take your puppy to the crate in at regular times he will learn the crate is for sleeping in.

You need to make the crate as comfortable to sleep in as it would be to sleep on your bed, by using soft pillows or pads.

Locate your puppy’s crate in a quiet, peaceful area in your house. Don’t put it in the kitchen or by the door as your puppy won’t get much sleep in the crate, and then end up finding somewhere comfy in the house.

A few toys in the crate will give your puppy something to chew on or play with if he has trouble falling asleep.

When you puppy realizes that his crate equals sleep then you can start using some simple verbal commands like ’sleep’ or ‘naptime’ when you put him in the crate.

In this manner you will make sure that your puppy gets plenty of good quality sleep in the privacy of his own bed.

At some point, any dog lover has probably considered the idea of adopting a dog or a puppy. For some people it’s a way to get a pet for a reasonable price. For others it’s the idea of being able to rescue a dog and giving him a good home.

Of the many dogs that are available for adoption, most are mixed breed dogs. Only rarely will a pure bred dog be up for adoption. When it happens there is usually a special circumstance.

If you’ve decided to look for a dog to share your heart and your home, adoption is a wonderful way to find that dog. A good place to start is the animal shelter and it’s a good place to begin.

If you decide to look at the animal shelter, it will probably be more difficult to find a puppy rather than an adult dog. Puppies are quickly snapped up. A good thing about adopting a dog at a shelter is that you won’t have any health surprises since all their animals are checked out by a veterinarian.

By adopting a dog from an animal shelter you may actually be saving his life. Many more animals are available than can possibly be adopted out. For the “left-over” animals, euthanasia may be what lies ahead.

Puppies are easier to find by looking for lawn signs or in your local newspaper. You could also have friends keep an eye out for you. Contact a vet’s office. Often their clients will post notices about dogs that are available for adoption.

You should be aware that “free” puppies may not really be free. Many of these puppies will need a visit to the vets for a checkup and to be sure their shots are up to date, as soon as possible.

Although many people are unwilling to consider adopting an adult dog, these animals often make wonderful pets. Not all adult dogs turned over to the shelter are problems. Sometimes it can be a case of an owner’s situation changing so they are forced to give up their pet.

Before you do take on an adult dog, try to find out as much as possible about his past situation. If there is no information, you may want to be cautious. But if the past owner has had to move or can no longer care for their pet, you have probably found yourself a winner.

If you are considering the possibility of getting a dog, think about adopting. There are lots of dogs and puppies who are in need of a good home. You will no doubt find it a very satisfying experience.

A comfortable bed is a wonderful way to show your dog that you care. Dogs love to feel warm and cozy. A heated dog bed is the ultimate in comfort. Some dogs prefer the soft padded cushion and the bolster which doubles as a pillow in a bolster dog bed.

There are many people out there that almost seem to be scared when it comes to buying pets because they feel that it is going to be very tough when it comes to training the thing, this is often not the case.

Family

If you are intending to have a baby at some point or have children already then make sure the animal is used to them. If you are currently pregnant and are wanting to get a dog or cat I would wait until the baby is born because the dog will think you do not care once the baby is born and will get jealous, this has been known to cause things like lashing out. Make sure that each and every member of the family trains the animal because it will know they are all in charge.

House Training

When it comes to training your animal on not pooping indoors it can be important because if you do not do this there will be problems. The first thing that you need to realise is that a puppy is very similar to a baby and cannot control their bladders or bowel and although you must show them that what they have done is wrong you should never completely lose it with them. Yes that is even if they decide to wee on your precious carpet. One of the best things to do when it comes to potty training is to actually make sure that you feed them at the same time and take them out into the garden afterwards. After playtime is another time where puppies and kittens often need to go so make sure you take them after this. Of course if you are doing this the puppy will learn and start to do it on its own accord.

Health

If your animal gets ill and you don’t do anything they will start to dislike you so make sure you take them to a small animal vet or animal hospital. The same goes if they need something like animal physiotherapy.

If you do these things I am sure it will be fine!

A few years back, I remember hearing the story of a mayor in Paris who actually had his policemen start writing tickets for people that were not cleaning up after their pets. Right there in the sidewalks of Paris, things were getting out of hand. The problem had become so horrible that people just could not walk down the sidewalk without trying to dodge ‘land mines’.

I have had a similar experience in my own neighborhood. I like to walk, particularly in the morning. I faced the same ‘land mine’ situation on a certain stretch of sidewalk. This raised my anger. If a someone is really not going to clean up after her pet, why can’t she at least have the pet go somewhere other than the middle of the sidewalk?

Aside from the fact that the owner was not being respectful to her fellow humans, it is disgusting to walk down the sidewalk and suddenly realize that you have to watch where you step. The disgusting part is that this is organic waste that I have to avoid from another living creature. These animals could very well have parasites or other nasty things in their stool. This makes stepping in it a health hazard!

Sure, you can scrape the bottom of your shoe off before going back inside, but in all honesty how likely are you to get it all off – right down to the smallest particles that you might not even see? Some parasite eggs could end up on your carpet. Do you have a child that likes to put things in his mouth after crawling around the floor? How many little particles, no matter how small end up in your bed?

All right, I think the point has been made. On another note about animals, both cats and dogs have another problem that is very common to their human friends. That problem is gum disease. So many animals have it and so many humans do too! Do not forget to get your pet checked for gingivitis. Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in humans and probably is in pets too!

There are not really any answers to this if I am being honest because it always depends on the kind of situation you are in. Here are just a few options that you might like to take when it comes to getting a pet.

Dog

The reason why a dog is such a great pet to get is simply because of that connection that can exist with you and the creature, it is great for guarding the home when you are in bed or out. A dog is one of the best pets you can have for a family because they are very friendly if you train them to be and I would say get a bigger dog for a family because they are nicer.

Cat

This animal really did have to be second on the list didn’t it?. I would never really depend on a cat to do much for you because they are allowed to do what they want but they are good for people that live in the country. This of course is because they can keep rodents away from the home and this becomes their source of food often. Cats are good for old people because it gets them motivated but I do not think they are great for families.

Birds

According to pet owners it would seem that the very next animal on the list is actually going to be the bird, strange I thought. Although personally I would never buy a bird because I feel the cages are far too small I can understand why people do it.

If you are looking for anything else I would say to get something like a rabbit, although bigger than some other mammals they are easier to look after. Although they are a bit bigger they are actually easier to look after.

You are going to have to pay out for things likeanimal radiology andanimal surgery if they need to have them along with thevet referrals so make sure you know this.

Dog is man’s best friend and it is very rightly said. They are a big stress buster and a good company. When you bring a small puppy in home, you have to take extra care since it is very delicate and fragile. You see him grow fast in front of your eyes and within a year, you can know how tall he is going to be. Generally, when he is small, we use regular dog bowls to feed him but as he grows up it is better replace it with an elevated dog bowl in order to make it comfortable for him.

A fully-grown up dog has to bend low in order to reach to his food and while eating he tends to even ingest the air that causes gas and leads to lot of discomfort. So food should be served in an elevated bowl to avoid any such problem.

Pets especially dogs swallow the food very quickly and which develops stomachache and blotting and is a very uncomfortable condition for them. You can find the dog bowls in various fancy shapes and sizes so might as well think of elevating there bowl to make sure your dog is happy while eating.

When the dog age, like human even they have the tendency of weak bones and arthritis. It is very painful and creates lot of discomfort while bending, walking etc. Elevated dog bowl is perfect for dog suffering from bone problems, as they do not have to bend in order to reach the food. For a dog that has severe condition, it becomes almost impossible to crouch and eat. The pressure on the backbone, hip, legs increases which makes it very unpleasant and painful for them.

When you decide on picking an elevated feeder for your dog, make sure you keep mind certain points. Like the bowl should be in proportion to your dogs height. You should know the wither height of your dog and the feeder should be 6 inches below his wither height, and for smaller dogs it should be 4 inches below his wither height. Which make it is very comfortable position for them to eat from the bowl. You can find the feeders in different height, so you can definitely find the one that is perfect for your dog’s height.

You can also find them in various shapes and designs. Some are very fancy and you can match them with your home decor. The bowl should be removable so that it can be easily cleaned and placed back again. Most of the feeders come is stainless steel that can be easily cleaned in your dishwasher.

If you have more than one dog then generally they fight with each other when serving the food. To avoid it, these elevated dog bowls are of great help. Since they are as per the dogs’ height, a small dog cannot reach for the food placed for a bigger pooch and reduces conflicts.

Finally, a plush toy made for dogs. Crazy Critters has to be the perfect dog toy, especially for my puppy. Before getting his Crazy Critter toy, he would get my stuffed animal toys and within minutes he would have it in hundreds of pieces. There’s nothing more frustrating than cleaning stuffed animal pieces scattered throughout a room.

I was completely pleased when I heard about Crazy Critters, a plush toy made just for dogs. It’s so durable that my puppy can’t destroy it. My puppy has other dog toys and before learning about the Crazy Critter Fox, his favorite toy was this yellow squeaker bowling pin. One of the main reasons my puppy loves the Crazy Critter toy is because of its life-like appearance.

The plush toy comes stuffing free to avoid the possibility of your dog tearing up the toy and finding the area with stuffing pieces scattered all over. The plush toy can be used both indoor and outdoor. After a good day of playing with the toy, you can wash them because they are completely machine-washable. Both plush toys measure almost 24 inches in length. The squeaker noise on both ends of the animal has my puppy on constant alert. He spends hours after hours playing with the plush toy.

Crazy Critters is a great solution in creating appropriate behavior habits, especially for puppy’s early development. Unlike other toys that are not durable and not made for dogs, it develops a negative and destructive behavior. Crazy Critters was made to be suitable for puppies and older dogs in most ages. It’s ideal for providing additional exercise, especially for older dogs.

I was happy to know that there was a plush animal toy made for dogs. I was impressed that Crazy Critters was not only offering the Fox plush toy for a reasonable price, they were offering the Raccoon as an extra bonus absolutely free. On some days, my little puppy doesn’t know which plush animal toy to play with but enjoys them equally. I completely recommend this wonderful item for dogs.

A designer dog bed is simply a bed that has a special design that is outside of the norm. If you think of the norm as your basic flat, cushioned pad, then almost anything that goes beyond that could be considered "designer." This can include some pretty plain beds, not to mention simple beds specially designed to fulfill therapeutic purposes. But of course, the majority of designer beds are more like dog bed furniture created with a certain amount of style and perhaps even a bit of mischief in mind.

The designer dog bed can encompass a host of different styles, not to mention materials. You can have organic, eco-friendly designer beds, as well as very chi-chi, stylish beds with a definite aura of luxury. The one thing that these beds seem to have in common is that they all tend to be good quality dog beds. And beyond that, they usually come with a particular kind of flair, a certain extra spice to them that makes people sit up and take notice.

Along with those beds that lean toward streamlined European elegance, you’ll also find the designer dog bed that leans more toward the exotic. For example, this would include the type of bed that has a bit of an eastern flair. You can see examples of this at Glamour Dog (www.glamourdog.com), with luxury dog beds that call to mind a Sultan’s tent or a yurt on the Caucasian Steppes. These are round tent beds, often decorated with jewels or fur, that have canopied roofs that rise to a spire in the center. Although, if it comes with flaps that hang down from the edge of the roof, it starts resembling a circus tent.

But a designer bed for your pooch isn’t inevitably a thing of luxury. There can be custom creations that focus on other things also. Some beds have a country flair to them, made to resemble four-poster beds or big, overstuffed chairs. Other designs are more quirky, so you could wind up with your dog napping in a car, a laundry basket or even a gazebo.

And remember that beds made of memory foam, which are more orthopedic than anything else, are also thought of as designer beds as they add something special to the usual design.

A designer dog bed can have functionality as the determining factor in its special design, or its pattern can be a matter of sheer whimsy. You might prefer the sort of cool dog beds that feature feathers and velvet, simply so you can express a sense of luxury. Or you may be more interested in the responsibility implied by going with an ecologically friendly bed, made of recycled or all natural materials. The dog probably won’t care that much, but if you can find a designer bed that allows it to sleep comfortably but still lets you express yourself, then you’ll both be happy.

Dog beds come in a wide variety of styles, colors and sizes. Because of this, there are a number of things you need to keep in mind when you’re shopping for a quality dog bed, such as how big your dog is or could potentially become. Click here to find out more about what to look for in a dogs bed to meet the needs of your pet.

How the best mange home remedy for dog mange matches up with science is a short article that illustrates how four at home treatments follow a scientific approach. These four remedies may be low tech but they still produce some benefits.

Inside cage CZ of the animal shelter, this newest inmate of the shelter shakes, and when the mange itches too much, chews another patch of skin. So far, all attempts to relieve the suffering of the animal have failed miserably. Do other remedies exist? Will their drawbacks outweigh their benefits? Can any remedy make this pet look more attractive? Such questions occupy the mind of pet lovers.

Borax And Hydrogen Peroxide As A Remedy

The first remedy is a solution made with borax powder mixed with hydrogen peroxide. This solution penetrates the outer layer of skin, and kills the buried parasite that causes mange. A person cannot see the parasite but the solution still kills it. The peroxide sinks into the skin pulling the borax inside also. The borax dries the parasite then kills it. The formula for this solution does not need exact amounts, but between four and eight teaspoons poured into one liter (or one quart) of one percent hydrogen peroxide should suffice. Stir this solution until the borax powder disappears. This is the same powdered borax long used to wash laundry clothes.

For safe application, beware of safety precautions. Do not substitute similar ingredients for borax powder or for one percent hydrogen peroxide. For instance, borax powder has a milder toxicity compared with the very poisonous properties of boric acid. Never replace powdered borax with boric acid. Splashing this mange solution in the eyes or drinking causes a serious medical injury. Do not replace one percent hydrogen peroxide with concentrated stronger hydrogen peroxide. Also do not utilize any other type or form of peroxide. Use either one percent hydrogen peroxide or pure water. The formula for the solution using water contains between two and four cups of borax for every gallon (four liters) of water. The solution that uses plain water needs to be stirred until the powdered borax clearly dissolves.

Pour the borax solution onto the mangy area on the skin of the dog then let the area dry naturally. Treat the mangy area on a weekly basis over the course of one month.

Soap As A Remedy

Applying mild soapy water to the mangy skin of a dog provides some relief for mange. The formula for soapy water should contain only one cup of soap added to ninety nine cups of water. If the soap or dish washing liquid is ultra, concentrated or strong, then use less soap, use one half. If a person has no containers larger enough to hold all this water, then mix one tablespoon of soap with ninety nine tablespoons of water. The secret to making this soapy water remedy effective is to make the water less soapy not more soapy, and to not rinse the soap and water off the dog until five or ten minutes have elapsed. Soapy water gets rinsed off the dog, but the borax water does not get rinsed off. Soapy water kills by drowning insects that sit on skin.

Oil As A Remedy

Placing a large volume of oil onto dog skin tends to suffocate some of the insects crawling there. Many types of oil that have low toxicity for a dog are available in and around the household. Consider using olive oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, canola oil, or petroleum products such as mineral oil and baby oil. Verify that the oil to be applied is not toxic for animals. Do not heat the oil because oil kills insects by smothering them.

Cleanliness Relieves Mange

Some best remedies for the skin disease known as mange prevent parasites from hopping onto Barky the dog. Prevention calls for pet owners to scrub the sleeping area, bedding and toys the dog interacts with. Owners should also observe the behavior and appearance of Barky the dog. Too much scratching of the body or head could be a sign of mange. Too much chewing and licking at its backside could be a clue. A large grayish colored leathery patch of skin is a warning.

The Science Of Home Remedies

Home style dog care mentioned in this short article conforms to basic principles of the science of pet care. These treatments accomplish the following tasks.

Kill parasites not seen.

Kill parasites walking in plain sight.

Block new parasites from infesting host.

Mange is caused by an external parasite called mites. Other external parasites include fleas and mosquitoes. Mites crawl around on top of the skin and burrow under the skin. So the hydrogen peroxide-borax home remedy kills mites under the skin. The shampoo and oil home remedies drown and suffocate mites on top of the skin. Cleaning the sleeping area, bedding and toys prevents new mites from hopping onto the dog.

How The Best Mange Home Remedy For Dog Mange can help a dog is an article that describes a small selection of home remedies for mange and shows the science that gives them their effectiveness. These four home remedies for mange owe their effectiveness to real science.
